4 Ways to Become More Driven
Jul 29, 2024ONE IDEA FOR YOU TO THINK ABOUT
Early on in my career, I realized I couldn’t rely on my managers to teach me “drive.”
Drive was something I had to develop on my own.
Why? Because drive:
↳ Pushes me beyond my limits
↳ Propels me towards my goals
↳ Builds my resilience and perseverance
Now, I focus on cultivating drive daily.
Here are 4 ways you can grow the skill of "drive":
1. Set clear, actionable goals. Then establish habits that support those goals.
Tip: Pick a skill you value and go all in. Make it your superpower.
2. Raise your hand for big projects. Be proactive.
Tip: Look for "hidden gems" in your organization. Volunteer for a project and show your worth.
3. As for feedback and pivot when necessary.
Tip: Keep a list of constructive feedback (ideally a google sheet) and show how you’re growing from it.
4. Surround yourself with driven people.
Tip: Watch them. Look out for the habits that make them move forward.
ONE QUESTION TO ASK YOURSELF
What specific goals or projects excite you and align with your personal and professional growth? It does not only need to be at work. Is there a charity that you can volunteer with? A side hustle you can start?
Identifying these can help you channel your energy and enthusiasm into actions that cultivate drive.
Help YOURSELF find the drive you need to succeed.
ONE EXERCISE FOR YOU TO TRY THIS WEEK
Commit to doing 1 of these 3 actions:
1. Choose a skill you value and commit to mastering it—make it your superpower.
2. Identify a project in your organization and volunteer to take it on. Show that you are dedicated to learning more.
3. Ask a trusted resource for feedback and actively using it to improve. Keep a list of the feedback you receive and track how you're growing from it.
Bonus points if you start all 3!
